Cunard honored two outstanding crew members for their exceptional contributions with Stars of the Year for 2023 award. The programme, known for recognizing excellence in service and adherence to Cunard’s Culture Essentials, continues to highlight the dedication and commitment of those working aboard Cunard ships.

This year’s top honors were awarded to two individuals who have gone above and beyond in their roles. The winners were each presented with a choice of a two-week voyage for themselves and a partner or a cash prize of US $1,250, a printed certificate, a commemorative pin, and "Star for a day" treatment onboard.

The award for Cunard Culture Essentials Star of the Year was presented to Dennis Silang, a Deck Petty Officer who was serving on Queen Victoria at the time of his nomination. Dennis was recognized for his proactive approach to safety, particularly in his efforts to improve the manual operation of the winch handle on the liferaft davits. Instead of merely reporting a potential hazard, Dennis took the initiative to collaborate with other departments to enhance the process, demonstrating both leadership and a commitment to the well-being of his colleagues.

Armando Santos, an Electrical Technician who was on Queen Elizabeth, received the Cunard White Star Service Star of the Year award. Armando’s vigilant inspection of high voltage cables during routine maintenance led to the discovery of a disconnected motor supply cable, preventing a potentially dangerous situation. His meticulous attention to detail and willingness to share his expertise were highlighted as key reasons for his recognition.

Both winners are currently working on Cunard’s newest ship, Queen Anne, and were given the special privilege of attending her naming ceremony in Liverpool as part of their reward.

Congratulations to Dennis and Armando on receiving this prestigious award! Your dedication, and commitment have truly earned you this well-deserved recognition.
